Bihar Government Plans Major Development Push for Champaran; Air Connectivity and Competitive Exam Facilities to Be Expanded

Motihari: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday announced a series of major development initiatives for Motihari and the wider Champaran region, including the establishment of a medical college near Bariyarpur Airport, construction of an Atal Kala Bhavan, revival of old sugar mills and setting up of a new sugar mill.
The Chief Minister made the announcements while inaugurating the Kisan Samriddhi Sammelan and Intellectuals, Working Professionals and Social Workers Felicitation Ceremony at the Mahatma Gandhi Auditorium in Motihari.
Medical College Near Bariyarpur Airport
The Chief Minister said efforts would be made to make land available near Bariyarpur Airport for the proposed medical college instead of the land located farther from the city.
He said the government would work towards establishing the medical college at the Bariyarpur site, subject to the availability and suitability of land.
Atal Kala Bhavan to Be Built at a Cost of тВ╣20 Crore
Announcing another major initiative, CM Samrat Choudhary said an Atal Kala Bhavan would be constructed in Motihari at an estimated cost of around тВ╣20 crore.
Referring to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s association with Motihari, the Chief Minister said the proposed cultural centre would provide a new platform for art and cultural activities in the region.
He also assured that efforts would be made to bring a Kendriya Vidyalaya closer to the city, following a request from MP Radha Mohan Singh.
Old Sugar Mills to Be Revived, New Mill Planned
The Chief Minister said the state government was working towards restarting closed sugar mills across Bihar.
In Motihari too, efforts would be made to revive existing old sugar mills and establish a new sugar mill.
The move, he said, would provide sugarcane farmers with better local market opportunities while also creating employment in the region.
Air Connectivity to Champaran to Be Strengthened
The government also plans to further strengthen air connectivity in the Champaran region.
The Chief Minister referred to the proposed development of airports at Raxaul and Valmikinagar, along with airport development in Muzaffarpur.
He further said efforts would be made to develop an ATC facility at Bariyarpur to enable helicopter landing during night hours.
According to the Chief Minister, the state government is working rapidly on roads, electricity, airports and other infrastructure projects.
JEE-NEET Preparation Facilities at Around 700 Centres
Highlighting the government’s focus on education, CM Samrat Choudhary said Bihar was working on a plan to provide JEE and NEET preparation facilities at around 700 centres across the state.
The proposed programme is expected to benefit approximately three lakh students.
The objective is to reduce the need for students to travel to Patna, Delhi or Kota for competitive examination preparation.
The Chief Minister said digital learning facilities would also enable students to access teachers when required, including during night hours.
125 Units of Free Electricity
The Chief Minister also highlighted the state’s 125-unit free electricity scheme.
He said Bihar has around 1.90 crore domestic electricity consumers, of whom approximately 1.70 crore families have received zero electricity bills over the past year.
He described the initiative as an important step towards bringing change in the lives of people across Bihar.
‘Police Didi’ Teams for Women’s Safety
CM Samrat Choudhary also spoke about measures being taken to strengthen the safety of girls and women around schools and colleges.
He said around 1,000 ‘Police Didi’ teams have been formed for this purpose.
Government Working Towards Developed Bihar
The Chief Minister said the state government was working towards fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s goal of a prosperous Bihar.
He emphasised that government schemes should benefit people without discrimination based on political affiliation or individual identity, and that all sections of society should receive equal opportunities.
Progressive Farmers Felicitated
During the Kisan Samriddhi Samman ceremony, five progressive farmers from Champaran were felicitated for their contribution to the agriculture sector.

The Chief Minister presented them with angavastrams in recognition of their contribution.
He also congratulated MP Radha Mohan Singh on his 77th birthday and wished him a long and active life.
Dignitaries Attend the Programme
The programme was jointly organised by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Piprakothi, East Champaran, under Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, and the Intellectuals, Working Professionals and Social Workers Felicitation Ceremony Organising Committee, Motihari.
Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, MP and former Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey, and Bihar Minister Pramod Kumar Chandravanshi, along with elected representatives, administrative and police officials and representatives of social organisations, were present at the event.
