India’s Solar Revolution: From 2.82 GW to 150 GW+ Capacity, A 53-Fold Growth Story
One News Network 🛜 | EnergyOne News
India has achieved a historic milestone in its clean energy journey, expanding its solar power capacity from just 2.82 GW in 2014 to more than 150 GW in 2026. This remarkable 53-fold increase has positioned India as the world’s third-largest solar power producer, reflecting the nation’s strong commitment to sustainable development and energy security.
Record-Breaking Growth
One of the most significant achievements in this journey has been the addition of the last 50 GW of solar capacity in just 15 months, marking the fastest utility-scale and commercial solar deployment in India’s history.
Strengthening Domestic Manufacturing
India’s solar manufacturing ecosystem has witnessed extraordinary growth. Solar module manufacturing capacity has surged from 2.3 GW in 2014 to an impressive 172 GW, reducing import dependence and strengthening the country’s position as a global renewable energy manufacturing hub.
PM Surya Ghar Driving Rooftop Solar Adoption
The flagship PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana has accelerated rooftop solar adoption across the country. Millions of households have registered under the scheme, enabling consumers to generate clean electricity while reducing monthly power bills.
Non-Fossil Energy Crosses 50% Milestone
India’s solar success is a key contributor to the country’s broader clean energy transformation. Non-fossil fuel sources now account for more than 50% of India’s total installed electricity generation capacity, achieving a major national target well ahead of the 2030 deadline.
Towards a Sustainable Future
With continued investments in renewable energy infrastructure, domestic manufacturing, and consumer-focused schemes, India is rapidly emerging as a global leader in the clean energy transition. The country’s solar revolution not only supports climate goals but also creates jobs, enhances energy security, and drives long-term economic growth.
